Asario is also known as garden cress seeds (lepidium sativum). It belongs to family Cruciferae. In India it is known as ALIV or HALIM seeds. It is not very commonly used and hence very less is known about them. Asario seeds are small red, brown seeds with a sharp, tangy and peppery flavour. Garden cress is added to soups, sandwiches and salads for its tangy flavor. It is also eaten as sprouts, and the fresh or dried seed pods can be used as a peppery seasoning (haloon). In the United Kingdom, cut cress shoots are commonly used in sandwiches with boiled eggs, mayonnaise and salt.
